Uke questions
So - I know nothing of the Ukulele. Some questions:
What is the most common body size? Are all types and sizes typically tuned the same?

I suspect Soprano size is most popular.
I have a Concert sized uke I noodle around on. I like the Concert being slightly larger than a soprano or a pineapple. Soprano & Concert most common tuning is GCEA. |

and that G is pitched high so it's the same note as the G before the 4th string A.
Why? Because, that's why. |

Thanks for the replies. What about tenor? Typically low G or high G?

I have a soprano with a low G for sale.
Mainland has a great rep. Like the "Eastman E10" series. Solid rep. BTW, uke's are super fun and easy to play. Weird that more guitar players dont dive into that world. Since yer a jazzer (looking at the archtops in your footer), get a low G so you can use jazz voices (3rds and 7ths....) on the 3rd and 4th (low G) strings. Easy peasy. Tenor, either way has its advocates. Saying one is better than the other is an excellent way to start an argument among ukulele players.
And, if you were going to ask - baritone is usually DGBE tuned just the same as on a guitar. Although they sound pretty nice with a high D string too. |

Is flipping from one to the other an issue, other than nut slot issues?

Quote:
What "real" ukulele players would do if they wanted to sometimes use high tuning & sometimes low is, buy two ukes. Not that crazy when you consider that you can get quite a good instrument for around $350. Ohana, Kala, Pono (slightly higher) are all pretty solid brands. The ukulele equivalent of AGF is ukuleleunderground dot com, by the way. |

I prefer a tenor uke. My sister prefers a baritone and her 16 year old granddaughter...both of whom are part of our guitar/uke/mandolin trio... prefers a concert.
BTW, Kala makes great, affordable ukes.
