Default Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru on Netflix

Anyone see this too? I watched it last week, and I thought it was really interesting for a variety of reasons:

1. He really seems genuine. Yes, he's made a boatload of money, but I expected the production to be like the Leap of Faith movie with Steve Martin. I feel like Tony is buying what he's selling.

2. I'm surprised he curses like he does. F-bomb city. He explains why he does it, but still.

3. He really does seem to help some people.

4. I often wonder what people are like when they go home from an event.

5. Something about it just doesn't sit right with me, but I'm not about to discus it here.

Anyone else see it? What did you think?

I saw this Netflix documentary about a week ago and had some of the same impressions as you.

My first experience with Tony Robbins occurred many years ago at the Pasadena Convention Center when he was first starting out. They did a fire walk that day.

I've never attended a seminar but do think he is sincere and that he does help many people. The Netflix movie seemed to indicate that he has a solid network of supporters, volunteers and professionals available as follow-up help for those seeking it after the seminar.

His language and confrontational approach seem harsh but often apparently effective. Of course the movie only showed limited and selected/edited clips so there may have been some unsuccessful encounters.

I also found it interesting to see his new Palm Beach home and to learn that by moving from California to Florida his tax savings in 5 - 6 years will be enough to offset the $30 million purchase price.

From my Christian perspective some key ingredients may be lacking but all in all I am impressed with the portrayal in the movie.

i haven't seen this, and not really tempted, as i'm not a big fan, but i remember the late night ads and some of the controversy around tony.

i have read a couple of reviews and it struck me more as super long infomercial and less as documentary. i might try the first bit and see what i think.

he might still be your guru, so far we've only established he isn't your guru on netflix.

i watched about 54 minutes of this, and it was fairly hard and painful for me. i find him manipulative, contrived, disingenuous, and completely uncredible. reminds me of a carnival huckster.

i better leave it at that. sorry.

He's one of the most popular motivational speakers in the US, and mostly a charlatan who's really good at delivering platitudes in a way that gets people really excited.

I pulled it up on Netflix today and could only make it through about 40 minutes before asking myself why am I wasting my time watching what mc1 has so accurately described. I think the people that go to these things have bigger issues than this knucklehead could ever resolve for them. By the way, why the constant use of the F bomb? To what purpose is that supposed to serve? I don't know if P.T. Barnum actually said it or who did, but you know the famous quote accredited to him and I think it pretty much applies here.

I think this approach to self confidence comes with a price of willful ignorance and a requirement for full on narcissism.

He better have a good season; the Cowboys have been irrelevant, for too long.
