Guild D55 Tone?
Hi Everyone:
I'm looking for people's opinions on newer Guild D55s. I'd like to know your experiences with tone and playability. Many thanks, Jeff |

In terms of playability, all of the CT Guilds that I've played (and I've played quite a few) were supremely playable and had a perfect setup.
In terms of tone, I like the D55s that I played. It's very loud when it has to be, and very sweet when played gently. YMMV. |

As an aside, can anyone recommend strings for a recent D55? Thanks, Jeff |

D55 Guild
An exquisite guitar with rich full tone. I have loved the ones I have owned over the years.

I used to string up my Guild GF-55 with DR RARE medium PB strings, which had a good sound (for about 20 years!), but have since shifted to double-wound phosphor-bronze medium gauge Newtone strings, which are a very warm string, with less overall tension, and provide a good tonal balance. The Guild really seems to love them, and I love the longevity, which can easily rival any coated string I've tested. Occasionally, I use John Pearce PB mediums, which are excellent for recording, with good clarity and ring. I tend to stick with phosphor-bronze strings on guitars with rosewood backs and sides... 80/20's seem to be too shrill for my taste with rosewood. They sound great with mahogany guitars, though. IMHO.
