I've got a few that I play in that tuning:

The Ride - David Allen Coe
Mama Tried - Merle Haggard
Songs That She Sang in the Shower - Jason Isbell
Cover Me Up - Jason Isbell
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
49 Tons - Blackie and the Rodeo Kings
Keep the Customer Satisfied - S&G
Don't Let it Bring You Down - Neil Young
Ants Marching - Dave Matthews
Beast of Burden - Stones

Not all of these were necessarily recorded in DDD but they all fall easily in that tuning. I'm not sure if these are what you'd call "popular", but I like 'em.

Ohio by CSNY
Darkness, Darkness by The Youngbloods (not 100% sure on this one, but it sure sounds right).

Not "popular", but great songs......the last two tunes I've learned are Melissa Greener tunes - one cover and one original (at least I think)

Not what I would call popular, but Joe Bonamassa's "Palm Trees, Helicopters, and Gasoline" is a killer acoustic guitar solo that I would rate right up there with Clap, Embryonic Journey and Little Martha.

It's the first song Joe plays, though the whole concert is worth watching.

A lot of banjo tunes would suit double drop D - not that I can think of any offhand...
There's a Bert Jansch tune that works well in double drop D, although I think he played it in drop D:
