I would think the wall hangers for guitars are fine to use and will not hurt the head stock or neck, as long as the room they are hanging in has stable humidity levels of about 45 to 50 %, otherwise I would prefer to keep them in the case with humidity control, as humidity is critical to the longevity and stability, as well as the play-ability and sound of a solid wood guitar.

If you hang the guitar from the headstock it will
S-T-R-E-T-C H until it looks like an old ladies ear lobes with heavy earrings!!!!!! Geez the silly ideas you find on this forum Hanging the guitar from a decent hanger will not harm it - neither the wall mounted nor the stand types I prefer Hercules. (GuitarLight is right)

I'm using Hercules wall hangers in my guitar room and they work fine. No worries for me.

All the stores use them and some guitars hang for years. No worries. I like the Hercules brand floor and wall hangers and use both. Just put them in a stud and you'll have no issues.

ehmm,
you could try one of these - $515.00 on the other hand the hole in the headstock of old Spanish guitars was here so they could be hung on a nail on the wall, take your pick.

My Martin dealer uses wall hangers, and just wraps either soft cotton like an old sweatshirt, or a fleece type material, around them to keep the padding on the hangers from affecting the lacquer finish. I use them too. Figure a couple of pounds of guitar weight pulling on the neck versus over a hundred pounds of string tension in the opposite direction, should be no problem with neck hanging.

Get hangers designed for guitars...find a stud...and stop worrying. After a hardshell case, up on the wall is the second safest place for a guitar to be. Mine have been hanging for years with no ill effects.

A stand hanger
I put this together, works great. Atlas heavy duty mic stand with 12" base and weights 14lb. VERY stable and I like it because the amp cable has plenty of room below so it doesn't bend at the jack, and it's easy access. Easy to move around & store too.
[Used at home, no dogs or kids around to knock it over]

Hangers are fine and do not cause damage to the neck nor headstock (as long as care is taken when placing your instruments in or taking them out). I use both wall and free stands (hard to take walls to gigs). I like the Hercules which open when you lift the guitar straight up, and close when you lower it into place... Hope this helps... |

The weight of an acoustic guitar is small compared to the total tension in a set of six light-gauge strings.

I've been entertaining the thought of rigging up a room in my house with guitar hangers...
A "music room" where I can keep all my guitars, amps, pedals and various other musically related items!

1.) The effect of cold drafts or forced air heat, and 2.) Possible chemical reactions between the padding on the guitar hook and the finish on the guitar's neck. The first issue means that you should never hang the guitar on an outside wall or close to a floor vent bringing heat up from the furnace. Putting the guitar too close to an air conditioner window unit is probably not all that great an idea, either. The reason is that being exposed to these extremes day after day can cause cracks and sometimes structural failures in the guitar. So pick the spot on an inside wall where you're going to hang the guitar carefully. The second issue is only a concern if you get a wallhanger neck cradle that has some sort of padding on it. Be sure that the padding material won't react with your guitar's finish. If you have a guitar with a polyester finish, like a Taylor, it won't matter, because those poly finishes are pretty safe. But nitro-cellulose lacquer finishes are notorious for odd and disfiguring chemical reactions, so do your research beforehand. Hope this helps. Wade Hampton Miller |
