if i stand too close, it blurs right out of view
i need to pull a few feet back to see it all

i've been too close too long

have there always been these fissures, in this painting on my wall
was I too close to make sense of the truth
or did I turn a blind eye, to save myself some blues
choosing not to see the truth i knew at all

i've been too close too long

so what is it I feel, as I come to see the truth
do i change the way i look upon my song
or do i chalk it up, to getting longer in the tooth
another lesson that takes living long to learn
