Neck block and OM size
I purchased a neck block from stewmac to go with a MS000 OM style guitar I'm making.
The instrument is a 14 fret instrument, so I bought the 14 fret block. The issue is that the block is a good bit longer than the top of the guitar is at the top. See photo So, does this OM build warrant a specific block? Can I simply cut this one down, even though the 14 fret neck bolts would then be pretty close to the back? Thoughts? Thank you B This is the width at the block @ 3" 1/4 Here is the block I have 3" 13/16 Here it is if mounted flush at the top. This is how much the back sticks out. With the sides separated you can see there isn't a lot of room before you get into the channel Here's a picture for orientation if the others seem confusing So what do you think I should do? Perhaps lmii has the appropriate block? As a builder I'm not quite up to creating my own yet :/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Just cut it down to size, trim it from the bottom to suit, this way you leave your truss rod access hole and neck mounting screws alone.

What is your desired finished body depth at the heel, where the neck joins the body?

If I'm looking at it correctly, the second last pic has the wide bolt holes showing out, to demonstrate how little clearance there is? If so, it would concern me as well.
I would lop off the truss rod hole in the top of the block, then redrill, then trim the bottom of the block to fit. Don't forget to match the angle on the bottom, and to make sure you have the wide end of the holes facing inwards... |

I'm afraid by trimming the front and moving it forward I would rob the tennon of room and scoot the fingerboard toward the soundboard too far making it impossible to fit flush the fingerboard and soundboard ... apparently the precut 14 fret necks have a longer tenon than the 12 frets still thinking on this My only option may be to trim the back. Hey charles, I'd like for it to stay close to 3 1/4". I'll loose a rad if that when I radius sand it though, but not much Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

The gap you're seeing there is the back of the mortis... the very back bolt hole is toward the soundboard from there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I see. How long is the tenon on the neck?

The tennon will match the block. After doing some research it looks like the 12 fret and the 14 fret blocks are drilled the same with just extrA length behind the mortis on the 14.
I just cut it to length:/ should be right Can't think why it wouldn't Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
