Default Acoustic strings on a hollowbody Ibanez?

I have a full hoolowbody Ibanez that I recently purchased. I am not real happy with the sound. I was planning on selling it and losing money on it, but the I started thinking about throwing some acoustic strings on it and see what happens. Has anyone tried that? Could you comment on your experience and/or advise on a good gauge and string stye, ie, silk would, phos broanze, etc?

Or, am I just crazy for even thinking about it ....

Thanks~!

Is this a hollow body electric? My experience with hollow body electrics guitars is they are very sensitive to how they are set up. If you haven't already, try adjusting the pick ups distance from the strings to see if you can get a sound you like out of it. If it sounds a little muddy, bring the pick ups higher and that might clean it up.

No, you are not crazy to think about it. I have used and liked acoustic strings on my archtops. How it sounds will depend on a lot of things (like the exact response of the guitar), but you will certainly need to adjust the polepieces of your pickups.

Acoustic strings will have a relatively weak electric sound on the wound strings, so you can adjust those polepieces closer to the strings, while the stronger plain strings can be adjusted away from the strings.

Have no fear, and play!

No problem. Let us know how it works out for you.

Full hollow body electrics are a real blast once you get them dialed in just right. Also remember that your amp settings that you probably cherish that took a long time to dial in just right and likely work awesome on every one of your solid body electrics might not be the ticket for your new hollow body.
