Martin Repair
So I picked up this little sucker at a yard sale here for xx$
And the reason it was priced like so was because apparently there are some issues going on with the binding and seams, take a look at the photos Should I bother trying to fix it? And if so, how would I go about doing it? I don't mind getting my hands dirty to do so, I have VERY basic woodworking skills but I do know how to use glue and clamps etc... Any advice is welcome |

From what I can see of the pictures, it is a fairly straight-forward repair. You'll need glue - either yellow glue (titebond, Elmer's carpenter glue...) or hide glue - and a roll of masking tape. It may be of help to use a thin-bladed pallet knife or a syringe to get glue into the small spaces. Use the masking tape to hold it while the glue sets. Clean up with some hot water and a clean rag.
Check for loose braces while you're at it. Last edited by charles Tauber; 05-14-2011 at 11:28 PM. |

Is that an OM-1? Should be a nice guitar once you glue it back together.

It doesn't look as bad as it looks! Make sure you scrape or sand the old glue. Also, check the braces before reassembly. I wish I could find a Martin repair project for only 2 xx's

It's not an OM1 (I wish it was!) but it's a 000X1, not a bad guitar either.
I did as you said Kitchen and I got one side glued up and sitting, since both sides are seperated I matched one with the masking tape thing mentioned earlier. I might post pictures after it's done, if it survives haha! |

Difference of opinion, but I wouldn't scrape or sand the old glue on this repair unless the old glue was preventing it from going together, which isn't likely.
