thinning a neck on a classical guitar
Hi, wondered if this is possible...to reduce/shave the neck a bit on both sides, and then install a smaller nut. The smaller nut is easy enough; but the thinning? Would like to remove about a couple of mms; one from each side to get the neck down to 50 or 51mm (2"). Thanks, WC

I've done it. Several years ago I bought an old 3/4 or 7/8 size classical guitar for 2 or 3 pounds in a car boot sale. It has a solid wood front and I imagine solid back and sides. It was a classical guitar with typical wide neck. The neck was attached to the body with a single bolt which could be adjusted to change the action. I removed the bolt and took a belt sander to the sides of the neck until I got the thickness I wanted and then rounded it all off. It has no fretboard. Frets are set directly into the neck (plain maple). I gave it a coat of black gloss paint and refitted the neck. It's been my cooking guitar ever since. Probably wouldn't have tried it if I couldn't remove the neck.
