Default Initial Impressions Beneteau 0-12

Here's what I wrote to Guitar Gallery today after playing my new Beneteau parlor all last night and all morning today. It's a truly wonderful instrument. Pics on Marc's site of his 0-12 model is the actual guitar. http://www.beneteauguitars.com/ Here are my thoughts:

It’s just beautiful in every way. The photos on the website do a good job
of portraying the guitar, but it’s rather significantly different in person,
and in a very nice way. The top looks a lot darker with a very warm appeal.
The transition in color between the top/purfling/binding/sides/back is more
understated, which I really like, as I wasn’t sure if it might be a little
too dramatic based on the photos. The perfectly bookmatched figure and ruddy
color of the Sapele, glowing warmth and fine grain of the cedar, and ebony
appointments all go together to remind me of a big piece of chewy caramel. I
sort of want to eat it.

But, the sound is what makes it a real keeper. Wow, what a “pretty” sounding
guitar! That is what strikes me the most. It’s just so soft, delicate,
smooth and round when picked gently, but with a surprisingly wide dynamic
range when struck harder. I’m enjoying barely plucking a string, and hearing
it ring with this velvet-like sonorous quality. You can almost breath on it
and get a response. A beautiful midrange sound, but with just the right
amount of treble and bass to provide a balance that suits it perfectly. It’s
also a very nice strummer, with a generous amount of headroom; a bonus for
its flexibility. It’s the kind of guitar that makes me want to brew some hot
chocolate, sit next to the fireplace and meditate on its voice.

That is all for now!
Steve

Who shot the photo's? Great pictures. #3 needed one more light IMO. So many Luthiers build great guitars, then take crummy pictures of them. Its refreshing to see great photo's of great work. Congrats!

I have played that guitar and it is one of the very best I have ever tried; it's been haunting me ever since!

Looks like a beautiful instrument. Had my 1st opportunity to play a really nice 0 built by Todd Stock last week in his shop. What fun (and a great guitar too). Any chance we can see this at the gathering in March?

You bet! I'll bring the Beneteau, a H&D DS Custom and a Goodall Walnut CJ. Looking forward to it!
