Default K&k double helix mag.

Anyone tried this pup. Not a lot of unbiased reviews out there.
Would love to know what real world musicians think about
This...also do you have it stand alone or combined with a pure mini?
Thx

I haven't tried it, though I've been curious to hear reviews. The samples I've heard have led me to believe it would sound best w/the K&K Mini. The Mini is already microphonic, so it would be best complemented by some sort of powerful string sensor, like a mag or undersaddle piezo.

I haven't cared for the sound of the K&K UST but this mag sounds nice, clear, and sparkly. If used with a K&K external preamp, it would probably bring a real nice sparkle and clarity to the K&K Mini which tends to sound pretty warm.

K&K isn't pretending that the mag does more than it really does and they recommend that it be blended with the K&K. I agree w/Dieter at K&K that a good SBT & Mag is a better combo than a Mag that pretends it's also a SBT, like the Baggs M80. The K&K will do a better job providing body resonance to the signal than the suspended coil in the M1 or M80.

Old post but i own and have used this pickup. It is most likely best paired with the K&K pure mini at around a 60pm/40dh% blend. The phase switch is nice, and flipping the switch over to the steam setting can be fun for stuff. However i would not feel comfortable using it by itself. In the same price range is the DiMarzio black angel which also has a phase switch, and baggs m1 passive, and they both pair nicely with the pure mini. The double helix is also wired to a male rca and comes with a female rca that is typically wired to the ring of the output jack.
