Default vibration

Dear Glenn,
could it be that the colours of the fretboardinlays have something to do with the rising soundvibrations of the tone?
Still looking forward to the breathtaking design and surely to the voice of this one of a kind of a guitar.
all the best

Here's a look at how the neck will flow into the soundhole. I've got an idea for an element of the headstock, but I've had to step away a bit because of a bout with wood allergies. I should be back at it soon.

Very cool how the curve of the rosette is carried through into the inlay on the bottom of the fretboard.

Really am loving the looks of this guitar!

It's been a while since I've posted progress because unfortunately working with rosewoods and ebonies are like working with poison ivy for me. I've reworked my dust collection to keep the dust down enough to avoid most systemic reactions, but I dread carving pieces like the heel cap and the bridge because of the local reaction on my hands. If any one has a suggestion for dealing with wood allergies I'd love to hear them. Nevertheless I've roughed out the heel cap and once my hands settle down its on to the bridge.

Terrible to hear you suffer from that type of problem. Wish I had a solution for you. Beautiful heelcap BTW. Exquisite!

Smile Wood allergies

I found out the hard way that Manzanita sawdust is toxic. Oak pollen and dust too!

A days yard work cost me 10 days of gigs! Now I know I am allergic to WORK, and try to avoid it if possible. Haha

Could you use surgical gloves? I have a doctor friend who wears them when working on his BMW...

At any rate this sure is a beauty! Do NOT breath while working! Haha

Cheers

Paul

Have you tried using Nitrile gloves like 1st responders and medical staff use? They may take a bit of getting use to, yet they should protect your hands. Vinyl is another option (not latex), yet I find them more delicate and tear easier. My son is a mechanic and he uses a black version rather then the regular blue (don't need to be able to identify bodily fluids like first responders) that are a bit thicker for even better strength.

I do not have allergies but now wear them when working with all chemicals or dirty jobs. The secret is to get as tight a fit as is comfortable. If they are loose at all, you will have trouble doing delicate tasks. In hot weather your hands will sweat more, again you will get use to it after time. A box of 100 should be less then $20.

That heelcap is so so cool!

I was also going to suggest medical style gloves.
A friend of mine also has wood allergies, he finds a really high quality dust mask means he 'feels' less affected even if he has bare hands, he also uses gloves most of the time.

Keep up the good work when you can, i'm still enjoying this thread, hopefully I can take some inspiration from the awesomeness here when I start my next build in the next few weeks.

This is really cool. You have such an artistic approach that at least I have seldom witnessed. What gorgeous work! Thanks so much for sharing!

I haven't posted any progress in a while so I thought I'd show this fun little headstock cap I made for this build. My daughter just finished the Kumano Kodo trek in Japan so here's a misty mountain scene to celebrate her accomplishment!

The mortise and tenon that holds it on.

I put a little bone dust in resin for the fog and a little rose dye for a bit of color.
