All your guitars are special, Mark. This one is ... well ... maybe specialistest.

Thank you Mr. Paul,

Not much more to go on this one. I have a nice piece of Cocobolo to make the bridge. It will have Schertler open back tuners with black Ebony buttons.

Thanks for following!
Mark

Default Tuners and Bridge

I have made and glued on the Cocobolo bridge. We're going with the Schertler open back tuners with Black Ebony buttons;

Should have the strings on tomorrow!

Default All Strung Up!

I have ukejon's guitar all strung up today.

It has a Cocobolo bridge with my saw tooth adjusted bone saddle;

We have a Cocobolo head stock overlay, Schertler tuners and a Thuya burl truss rod cover;

The truss rod cover goes nicely with the 12 fret inlay. You can also see the semi hemispherical fret end dressing I do on all of my guitars in this picture;

We went with a satin finish on the neck which is just a pleasure to play. Here is a picture of the heel and I tried to capture the satin sheen on the volute in the second picture;

All of the mahogany on this guitar came from the same board. If anyone else would like an all mahogany I have enough to do one more full guitar from this board.

So how does it sound? It sounds great! But, don't take my word for it. I'll be sending it off to ukejon next week. Our goal was to make a complimentary guitar for his Greta Cedar/Rosewood. We're looking for some of the fundamental characteristics all mahogany is known for and we're looking for the incredible overall balance you can get from a fan fret. Another goal was to keep this larger Josie model comfortable which in addition to the 13 fret, fan set-up we also incorporated a body wedge.
I look forward to Jon's review but this week I get to play it!

Thanks,
Mark

Congrats Jon--Can't wait for your report and to hear you play it!

Beautiful work. Leaves me in awe of what Mark is able to do with wood.....

It has been, as before, such a privilege to work with him on this project. Mark is a most gifted luthier to be sure but he also has a great sense of design. Add to this the fact that he is so attentive to the client's wishes regarding aesthetics, tonal character, feel and playability, responsiveness, weight, comfort, and the like. He certainly knows how to make magical sounding guitars, but then also has an ability to do this in such a way that really brings the buyer into the process. A very gratifying experience working with Mr. Hatcher....I'm sure that a nylon string project will pop up in a couple of years and we get to start this all over again!

So the finished product does not disappoint but, I kind of need to hear it/see it in action before final judgment can be determined.

Just as long as you publish said lines for the rest of us to covet, that's all that matters.
