FRAP: Flat Response Audio Pickup developed by Arnie Lazarus circa 1969. The Trance Amulet, Dazzo, and LR Baggs HiFi pickups are variations of the FRAP design which are all multiplanar or 3D designs that sense vibrations in several planes with the Trance Amulet likely having the most sensing elements inside. I once asked Gary Hull of Trance Audio if the Amulet design had three sensing elements for a 3D tone and he said each Amulet has more than three sensing elements inside.

thanks guys...that answers my question. Sandwiched transducers. That's why they're thicker, obviously. I wonder if each sensor is sensitive to complementing frequency ranges? Kinda of a "foveon' style audio sensor. And which frequency would be where? Or it's the same sensor and they rely on the distance from the source, and the need to pass thru the first ones, to determine which sensor is sensitive to what part of the spectrum. My uniformed logic would put the bass sensor furthest away. Unlike an image sensor, this might be diy-able. Also what they'd use as a matrix to float the sensors within. Gotta be pretty transparent. Maybe semi-liquid? A gel ? I've been eyeing these...for exactly the same reason.

ps....and that little bit of history pretty well destroys Dazzo's claims that it's his design.
