Simplest way to record my guitar?
I have a laptop with GarageBand. What's the easiest, simplest, cheapest way to get my guitar signal into my computer? Can I go straight from my amp into the computer? Or do I need some sort of preamp? If so, which one?
Could I use a headphone out to headphone in jack?

Zoom H4 would be the simplest, cheapest and easiest.

Agreed. We've been using a Zoom Q3HD for a while, which is essentially a Zoom H4 with video. The sound quality on both devices is excellent. The advantage of using the H4 is you can get a lot closer, and position the recorder solely based on capturing the best sound. With the Q3HD, you also have to take the video into account, and you often sacrifice the sound somewhat in deference to properly framing the video.
Here's a video of a couple guys using a Zoom as a "microphone". They film the video with an iPhone (I think) and capture the sound with the Zoom, which is just a recorder (it looks like a mic but it's not - note the absence of a mic cord). Then they import the audio and video separately into their computer, synch them with a video editor, and voila you have a video with high quality sound. Easy as that. Even easier if you don't have the video aspect to worry about... http://youtu.be/syCU871iprU You can check out my youtube channel (linked below) for an idea of the sound quality you can get with a Q3HD.

Even cheaper, the Zoom H1. It's simpler in operation than H2 and the current models (or older ones with newer firmware upgrade) can act as a USB mic. The nice thing about that is you get a great portable recorder AND a stand-mounted USB mic at a great low price.

Absolutely right !. I was looking for something on a budget and the Zoom h1 is a win. I'll get one of these. Although here is twice the price but still worth. I heard several tests on ytoube and it is ok to make reasonable recordings and avoid the whole cable stuff on pc mode.
