Advice on domain name + best builder
Hi all
I've been playing guitar for years and been in bands, but after a few years away I am trying to get back into it. This time, I'll be running the show, and while I do want to work as a solo performer, I also want to be able to work as a duo with a female singer. At this stage, I don't know which project will get the most traction, and I want to choose a domain name that works equally well for the solo act, the duo act, or both. I was thinking "hobartacousticmusic.com" - with email being "[email protected]" but my only concern is people mis-typing the word "acoustic" What are your thoughts? Also, I'm trying to find the best host with an easy to use page builder. I've had a go on wordpress but I'm having trouble with editing menus, and while squarespace seems easy to use, at least during australian business hours, there seem to be some intermittent server issues. What builder do you guys use for your webpage? |

This seems to be something for Open Mic, not guitar discussion.

web service
I have several sites and use weekly for most of them,goDaddy for 2 more. Weebly is slightly easier for meant the GoDaddy isn't easy. GoDaddy can do slightly more and has very good service when you need help. Things are SO much easier than they were 10-15 years ago!

I use GoDaddy for both my business and my ukulele club web sites, and their built-in page builder is pretty easy to use, for an extra $7 per month. I have also used Word to create web pages and saved the files as HTML format, but you then have the extra step of uploading the files manually via FTP. If you make frequent changes, the page builder is probably the easier way to go. GoDaddy has been superb at tech support whenever I have called. |

Keep it as simple as possible. Try using music instead of acoustic. In print, use upper case letters for the first letter of each word to make it easier to read.

Wordpress is very popular and Is more and more recommended.
Most every website builder app comes with a learning curve that isn't always easy to get around. The low cost hosting sites don't offer much of anything in the way of support in the how-to side of things. Keep it simple Sherlock - whatever you do. When you settle on a domain name, consider also getting "your domain name stinks .com" to avoid someone else getting it for malicious purposes. (Try registering "some popular sites stinks .com" - bet you can't do it ) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyways I don't know how to move the thread but if it's really out of place, then hopefully an admin has a moment to move it to somewhere more appropriate |

Thanks all for your suggestions. GoDaddy and Weeble weren't even on my radar. It may be that they don't bother advertising to the Australian market the way squarespace, wix, and WordPress do.
As one of you guys suggested, the learning curve for all of these sites will be tough, and for that reason I think I will persevere with wordpress and if I get super stuck, I can probably find a WordPress forum to ask my question or at worst, pay someone to tutor me. While the city name is important it isn't essential, but I do feel that as a covers act playing acoustic guitar, the word "acoustic" is valuable, but maybe not essential. Last time I looked into this a few of the .com domain names I wanted were not available, but being in Australia, a .com.au would be fairly standard anyways. |

Squrespace, Wix and Weebly all have relatively easy to use builders and good templates. Squarespace is the best of those IMO, but that's very much about design and personal preference. Wordpress is probably the most powerful with the most template options by far. Never easy, it's work to plan, design, edit and build.

For non-selling sites, I'm a big fan of Squarespace. Easy to get up and running.
If you're going to be selling stuff, look at Shopify. hobartmusic.com is currently available. I'd get rid of "acoustic" for all the reasons named above.

EZ
I am easily technologically overloaded and don't seem to have any sort of inherent understanding, yet I find Weebly and GoDaddy surprisingly easy to use, especially Weebly. I haven't tried the others. I have several sites, and they all look good and are easy to use - and none of them are very artsy or fancy. I am not looking for that. If I were, I might look further.
