Pickup for a weissenborn?

I have used a Baggs M1A. Works very nicely. Also a Seymour Duncan Mag-Mic. It works very good too. I cannot say one is better than the other. I'm not a pre-amp sound molding kinda guy, so I like the active PUPs better than passive.

Fishman rare earth humbucking soundhole pickup. It amplifies well, easily controlled feedback, integral volume control. I have one in a Gold Tone Weissenborn copy.

Coincidentally, I'd just saw this yesterday. Jeff Lang, an Australian Weiss player, talks about his setup. He can get very effects heavy at times but he also has a great "clean" sound. His pickup setup is interesting.

David Lindley uses a Sunrise in stereo with various contact pickups (PUTW, McIntyre, etc). It's a HUGE sound when mixed right.

Almost any magnetic soundhole pickup will sound great with a Weissenborn guitar. Piezo and transducer pickups will work, but they can't match the characteristic fundamental tone and bass response of a magnetic pickup and get that "larger than life" sound that makes playing a Weissenborn with a good pickup such an amazing live performance instrument.

I'm partial to the Sunrise pickup but I hear good things about the Seymour Duncan MagMic as well. IMO the Sunrise pickup is the gold standard for Weissenborn guitar. I've had a Sunrise in my vintage Weissenborn for almost 30 years and it's the one guitar I own that I've been happy with my plugged in sound since day one. I also have a Sunrise in my Tony Francis guitar and it also sounds amazing.

I use a Sunrise on my Tim Kill Weiss too.

I have a Sunrise in my Pogreba Weiss and am entirely happy with it.

Update: We chatted with Mr Dave after a show last year and he's now using the Duncan MagMic and gushing over how much he likes it.
