Braces are important. I think I'll use them on this guitar.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Along with the top braces, I decided to go crazy and do back braces as well. It seemed rational at the time.
Pictures make it seem like all of this happens in an instance. The reality is that carving braces and dialing in the "voice" of the plates is a lengthy process.... especially the top: Since both plates have been addressed, might as well make this thing into a box. Thanks for following along. I hope you're enjoying the photos. More to come.

Hello! I still cannot get over that ebony! Looks like things are progressing well for you. I like the nice rosette, as you always do a great job with those. Even an ebony cap on the braces...nice attention to detail. Keep us up to date, Chris. Thanks. mtl

I wish I could take credit for the ebony. Alas, I was not the one who turned the cool factor up to "11" on this set. Sure is a sight to behold and a pleasure to work.

In going with the black and white theme, the neck on this guitar will have the same sort of dark and light motif. The main portion of the neck is curly maple and the stripes are wenge. I went to my favorite local wood supplier and dug through the piles. I found this amazing chunk of curly maple and some beautifully sawn wenge. The colors of both should complement the black and white ebony nicely.
This is how it'll sit for a few days: There's a lot of glue surface area that has to fully cure in there....

Clamps are off. How's this for a neck blank?
And while we're at it, here's the beginning of the bridge making process: I held the neck up to the body the other day. To say I'm excited for how this one's turning out is an understatement. I can hardly wait to see some finish on it.

I bet you are excited about it. I really like the multi-ply necks that you use, and this looks like a great match for the ebony. Very nice, Chris!

The body has been tortured into accepting binding.
By the way, if anyone can tell me a way to work more clamps into the binding procedure, let me know. A little eye candy to start your weekend off right: Thanks for following along.

What a beauty! I can't wait to see it under finish. I love how you've done the sound port so it doesn't distract from the beauty of the wood - that stuff is mesmerizing!
