Default How about a 5-minute practice rig?

I've long needed quick access to my electric guitar for those little five-or-ten minute windows of time we get during the day. It eventually led me to lash up an amp rig that can give me my primary sounds at reasonable level and in the time it takes me to unbox a guitar and get going. You can read more about that and perhaps get some inspiration to build you own "Five-Minute Rig" in my little article, HERE.

Bob,

Great article here, founded upon a great idea. I stumbled across it several years ago and if the modeling technology only did this for me (i.e. Provide the possibility of short practice sessions--especially through headphones when the family is sleeping--with great tone on tap), it would be worth it.

I'm currently using the Helix Rack for my modeling and it does a simply stellar job, whether I'm using monitors at low volumes or headphones. It's been one of the best investments in gear I've made to date.

Here's a pic of my set-up:

I have a mustang III v1 that I keep at an arms reach with a few 10ft cables close by in the home office.

so when I need to take a break and let loose for a few minutes it's just grab an axe, plug it in, turn on, go...

Also in this office is my yamaha console digital piano.. then it's even easier,, sit down, and turn it on...

I have a Roland Cube 30 bass amp next to my lunge room chair with a lead to plug into mu computer for sound, my pedals for effects and a set of headphones so I can blast away for as long as I like.

I pretty much did most of my early guitar learning and playing on electric guitar. (Mostly unplugged also).

i still have my pod but it is noisy! even tho i have a ton of tube amps, i can get a great amp sound thru logic in two minutes. i've used a lot of the amps/pedals of logic and have no qualms about including them in my recordings. i do a lot of scratch(that may remain permanent) rhythm guitar parts that i eventually add a tube lead guitar part. works fine!

thanks bob!

play music!

Had a Line6 HD500, too finicky of a UI.
I have 2 Of the Small Yamahas, I keep one at a friends house where I stay when I travel for work. Great solution.

I picked up a Line6 Helix awhile back. Game changer for me.
Fits the bill for so many applications, lots of recent updates with new amps and pedals too.

I rarely turn on my tube amps lately, even the 1W Marshall JVM. Like Bob said even 1W gets loud.
