Mic/New Guitar Recording Test
I picked up a Shure KMS32SL yesterday and decided to try it out with my new 810LTD.
This is just a very brief impov'd thing. It's fingerpicking up to 1:30 and picking the rest of it (if you listen close you'll hear me 'slurp' when I take the pick out of my mouth; god I'm an idiot). There is no EQ'ing at all. I'm sitting maybe 6" or so from the mic. It's all flat recording. I like to test mics and guitars this way. So far, I'm very pleased! Let me know what you think. I picked it up at Mars. Not so much a product of the going out of buisness sales, but a bud of mine manages the recording dept and was able to discount it a bit more.
I paid about $450 incl tax. Musician's Friend has it for $500. I'm very very happy with it thus far and plan on recording with it a lot! |

Sounds really nice, Jeffrey! That mic does a good job of picking up the tone of that guitar.... which is really good.

Thanks!
I'm very pleased with it J.R. I'm trying to work on a piece right now that's 4-5 tracks all just straight raw acoustic. The only "reverb" is whatever occurs in this room. |

Good Job Jeffrey,
The guitar and the Mic both sound great. Not a bad job of picking either. Mike

Jeffrey,
How about telling us the rest of the signal chain: What mic postion? What preamps? What recorder? If the recorder was digital, what sampling rate and bit depth. For something that got compressed down to mp3 format it still sounded lively and full. Very nice. Of course there's the playing............... CAN I BORROW YOUR HANDS FOR A FEW DAYS? I'd love to know what it feels like to play like that. David |

The signal chain was really simple. The Shure KSM32SL plugged into my Yamaha MD8 (minidisc data- based 8 track; I believe it's 44.1/16/stereo) with all EQ's set flat (12 o'clock). I recorded it then dumped it from there to my PC using a Motu 828 firewire interface and using CuBase VST 5.0 (left everything flat there too; just used it to record the source). Exported to 192k mp3 and that's it. I'm really pleased with it too. |

Thank you very much for the compliment!
I've been working on a piece that's actually planned out, I have have not had any time as of late. I've been working until 9 or 10 o'clock every night for about 2 weeks straight, so I just haven't had the time/energy to get on with it. Hopefully this will let up soon. |
