I may be wrong but I think he bought it in the early 70's during the time he was hanging around Nashville recording parts of what became the "Harvest" album.

The Father of Country Music had his name inlaid in script on the fingerboard. He had "Thanks" put on the back so he could flip his guitar over after a song and express his appreciation to audiences. This instrument (Inv. #AB4293) has back and sides of Brazilian rosewood and is No. 2 of the limited run (the first one went to the Rodgers museum). It is in near mint condition.
