Default John Denver Fans out there

Both my wife and I are huge fans, saw him in concert twice. I still play some of his music

We have several of his CD's and will probably be picking up the new dvd pak that was described in an earlier thread.

One of the cds we listen to on vacation trips.

I know a couple of his songs, but there are many that I don't recognize. Based on this thread, in part, I bought the Essential John Denver this weeken and look forward to discovering what sounds like great music.

I love John Denver and his music and I'm primarily an electric player. How many people could hold the attention of a crowd and move them in so many directions with his songs ?

Love his music, hate his politics (for some of his lyrics, I just cringe and bear it, instead enjoying the beautiful music).

He is one of the reasons that I play guitar.

One of my fav songs of his is a little known song of Rocky Mt Hig called "Prisoners"

this song actually rocks on acoustic. killer riff, played like a rock star not a folkie and great acoustic leads in there

i always wondered if John played the leads on this stuff or if it was someone else (on the rocky mt high album and that era)

That would be Mike Taylor who was John's lead guitarist at the time. I think he left John's band around 74 or 75.

What a small world.
Wow! Who would have thought that the Acoustic Guitar Forum would bring people together that attended the same event 26 years ago!

If you get the new DVD set, my photo of JD is on the right column of photos, 3rd down and a bit smaller than the others. Let me know if you would like a copy of any of the photos I took at that concert.

How did you get a camera into the concert?
The security people all but strip searched us at every John Denver concert that we attended and cameras were not allowed.

Yes, Mike is responsible for the lead lick at the beginning of Country Roads and John said he had been working on Rocky Mountain High when Mike came up with the signature lick and the song really came together after that.

The albums Mike played on were:

Poems, Prayers & promises
Aerie
Rocky Mountain High.

On the Rocky Mountain High album Mike is doing the lead work on the instrumental "Late Winter Early Spring."

I had no idea whether cameras would be allowed but I brought mine just in case. I was glad I did. Cameras were allowed and I got some great photos.

By no small coincidence, these are probably my favorite John Denver albums. Mike Taylor was an excellent guitar player, and I love his lead work on these albums. I wish he had stuck around for more. I have no idea why he did not work with John Denver longer, or whatever happened to him after that. I would sure love to hear some live recordings of Denver/Taylor/Kniss.

Same here, Andromeda. He and John Michael Talbot for me. I can't remember for sure, but I think Sunshine on My Shoulders was the first JD song I learned. And I remember how stoked I was when I finally got that Rock Mtn High riff down!
