Reading between the lines, I believe that their early use of "protein glue" in the revoiced 800s was flawed either with respect to material, its application or both. I would guess that they took the old body, ran some tests on the other brace connections and then hung it on the wall of someone's office. FWIW I too was surprised that that Taylor was replacing the entire body....

Is this likely to be a more widespread problem with revoiced production of that period using the same protein glue, and is it limited to the 800s? Or was it likely a one-off bad luck?

Nice that you are essentially getting a new guitar. Taylor customer care is the best. [emoji846]

The short answer is I don't know; but since the 800s were the first to be revoiced in 2013 which included the application of protein glue, I'm going to guess that it was more widespread than just my guitar. I agree that Taylor customer service is second to none. However, I think that their fairly prompt decision to replace the entire body, rather than just repair the errant brace, may indicate that the early application of "protein glue" may have been flawed in either the material use, its application or both...

Taylor has amazing customer service! They did warranty repair work on two of my guitars, and the quality was flawless. They ARE the best. I bought my first Taylor guitar in !980, a 12-string 855 which I still have. I also have the added benefit of living within 30 minutes of their shop.

I'm sure you will be very happy with the results.

SHE'S BACK!!!! My "new" 814 just arrived and man what a guitar she is. The big difference between this and the one I sent off is Taylor must doubled the depth of the body because the depth of tone is simply incredible. I can't honestly say that I remember what it sounded like when I sent it off to El Cajon for R & R, but the "new" tone is deep and lucious.....

Is the new body "X" braced or "V" braced?

It's X-braced I believe. Taylor's policy with such warranty work is to replace the body with a like body. I learned that when I tried to finagle a Western Sunburst top on the new body....
