I am fighting the urge right now with a Collings SJ. I love the look of the maple back and sides. I haven't heard the guitar yet as it is 100 miles away but I am trying to compare what it might sound like compared to my Bertoncini 000 with Koa back and sides. Beauty sure is seductive.

Haven't bought a guitar based on looks alone, but I consciously ignored the Martin 15 series line based on how unattractive I thought they looked. I cured myself of that with a little help from AGF.

Yes. I am guilty twice! Two years apart. Two different 400 series Taylors. Love the look of Ovankal.........couldn't resist....but the high mids just don't work for me.

It's a beauty! Collings makes a great guitar. It probably sounds similar to a Gibson J or SJ-200. You will love this Guitar. Looks quite a lot like my Guild D30.

I have once, and I no longer own it. It was a beautiful Maple with a full body sunburst that was very nice in all respects, but never fell in love with the instrument. Never again (perhaps)

Yes, a number of times!

First was in the 80s, a metal Dobro so shiny chromey it had to replace the 30s wood body....and to this day I have never had so many people ask me at all kinds of places, not :"Are you still playing that great sounding Gibson L-0?" Nope. Or: "Are you still playing that great sounding Martin?" Nope, it has always been: "Are you still playing that Dobro?"

After getting various Nationals and far superior slide players, the old metal Dobro was being considered for the trade, but a friend and the better half said in unison: "You can't sell that, it is your history!" What history is THAT, I thought but for this thread it is the truth - playing solo guitar/ vocal needs live needs every single trick in the book including a shiny guitar that catches the lights!

And to take it further, I asked the better half which guitar I should take.............what do you think it was?

Dated... I've married on that basis!

No it didn't work out, but I did get a beautiful daughter (and now a grand-daughter) out of it!

No, but I sure have been tempted! I don't have a koa or acoustic sunburst--yet-- and they sure can make me drool!

My weakness has been Ovations, particularly the Elites with the multi-soundholes. When I first saw one I thought it was the coolest design ever, and I still pretty much think that! So quite a few have p***ed through my hands, some of which have been good and others not so much. Some years back I also bought a gorgeous cocobolo T5 that I had little use for at the time ... but you should have seen the thing! My wife, who cares little for guitars, recoiled when I eventually decided to sell it, and I still think I should have kept it for its stunning beauty. And although the 000-42 I once owned was a very good guitar, I'm sure the main reason I went for it rather than a similar spruce and rosewood instrument was its dashing looks. I think I'm in danger of one day splurging on a Larrivee 10 series because of that dinky trim and the suave inlays!

Anyone else as shallow and fickle as I am?!
Three years ago I was intending to buy a Maton ebg808 because I think they have the most, aesthetically speaking, balanced shape. But their sound never impressed me, and I've read many criticism about their brand, so I went for a Furch which just sounds so much better
