We shouldn't even be having this discussion. The Moody Blues should have been voted in long ago.

In Love and Mercy, the Brian Wilson movie, he' s shown going to a concert of the Moody Blues and raving about their music. Do you think Mr. Wilson knows a thing or two about music?

The Hall of Fame has always been slow to recognize excellent musicianship. Look how long it took for Rush and Yes to get in. I believe the Moodies will get in eventually, let's just hope that it doesnt take the death of a band member, like in the case of Yes, to propel their case forward.

Quite a few responses with the majority favoring positive. When "In Search of the Lost Chord" LP came out in July '68 (I had to look to look that up, Couldn't remember), A few of us went over friend's house after ingesting some fun pills and this album was on the turn table, I ended up laying next to the sound system for hours listening to the record over and over. The songs "Visions of Paradise, the Actor and the Word/OM have stuck in my mind since that night proving that "Thinking is the Best Way to Travel". Changed my life from that evening on.

Well, in the immortal words of Johnny Rotten, in the letter that he faxed to the R&R HoF to inform them that the Sex Pistols would not be coming to accept their award,

Perhaps codifying and cementing the establishment of the anti-establishment....

A girl I dated briefly back in about 1970 (1971, maybe?) took me to a Moody Blues concert in Austin for my birthday. I wasn't a fan but she was, and I was impressed that she'd shelled out for my ticket, so hey...I went.

I think the proper term for my reaction is "gobsmacked."

They were the most utterly polished rock act I think I've ever seen AND one of the most high energy onstage, as well...the only other group that impressed me in those particular ways being The Beach Boys.

The Moodies played a fairly short set...just over an hour...but everything they did was impressive and essentially perfect (that is, I wasn't left wishing they'd sounded more like their records). I went out the next day and bought three of their albums. In retrospect, that was probably overkill on my part...one, maybe two would have sufficed, and I didn't have much discretionary income at the time. But in my defense, they hadn't put out a "greatest hits" album yet and, well...I still have the albums today, and heaven knows they've survived a huge number of collection purges in the intervening years.

But that's just my own anecdotal* evidence. And yes, I am an aging boomer. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

Dirk

Yes I do Nyghthawk, It was a very fine double CD /album, possibly one of the first "concept" albums (??)

Great music, great narration, close to the original storyline, and set in the correct location - i.e. Surrey in Southern England. Still compelling stuff!

Default Moody Blues HOF

I'm not a huge fan, but I do like some of the early stuff. Actually my wife has a Moody Blue Christmas album that we play during the holidays, it's quite nice.

Do they belong in the HOF? I think yes, especially seeing some of the crap acts that have been awarded this distinction.
