Are you employing the laptop in you voicing process? If so, how?

Hey Dennis ... yep, that is one beeeeeautiful set of Maccassar! My customer supplied the wood (he's a guitar builder himself, so he has a stash). I think he got it from Allied. I'll have a couple of photos around 4:00 today of the box cleaned up after binding.

I'm just using Audacity to do a frequency analysis as I'm shaving the struts. I simulate the bridge by putting some magnets in the appropriate place (the mass of the bridge brings the tap tone down, and the stiffness the bridge imparts brings it back up a bit, so you adjust the mass of the magnets accordingly). Then of course, since all of the frequencies are coupled, putting the back on shifts the spectrum again! Using the computer is sure better than back in the '70s, using my old Strobotuner!

Looking at my reply above, I don't want to imply that manipulating the main resonant frequencies is the only thing I do when placing and shaving the tone bars. The top has to of course be structurally stable (not under-built), responsive (not over-built) and making efficient use of the real estate you've got available. As any builder will tell you, there are many considerations at this stage of the build process ... these are just a few of them.

Yowzah--that is some kind of chocolately goodness there!
Looking beautiful, David. It looks so simple and totally elegant.

Thanks Nemoman ... it's definitely a nice chunk of Macassar, that's for sure!

Thanks for taking the time to share this build with us David.
And what a pretty build it is! Always inspirational. Steve |

How does one sit and play a guitar knowing the back looks like that. I would be constantly stopping to look. Unless of course it was a Wren ... then I would be completely captured by the sound!
