They may be made in the Far East, but it's a Spanish word and was clearly meant to connote the Spanish guitar making tradition. Pronouncing it 'EYE-buh-nez' sounds pretty dreadful to me.

Made in Japan, so, according to the Japanese/English dictionary with pronunciation it is:
"eebanyeezuh" |

Having met folks with the surname, Ibañez, in my travels long before I encountered the Japanese brand of guitars with that name, I find the pronunciation, EYE•BUH•NEZ, guite dreadful too.

Dreadful, huh? Funny, I think someone talking about their "ee VAHN yeth" guitar would sound incredibly pretentious.
I guess aesthetic preferences are bound to differ, huh? I went to school in Madrid when I was 8-9-10 years old, by the way. Llamame Paco! (never can figure out how to do the upside down one, sorry) Last edited by frankmcr; 04-24-2017 at 04:21 PM. |

The actual phonetic pronunciation is :
EEEban-knee-es for an English speaker to say correctly . The [ n ] in this last name has an " n " with this ~ over it when written correctly in Spanish . Since the English language doesn't use that letter it is seldom seen written in English texts . This is the phonetic sound of that " ñ " , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKh9vaJmxh8 Kind of how the Irish singer Enya has her name pronounced . But - in an English speaking environment - throw this out . Everyone say's : Eye Ban Yes EZ : HR

Yep t's so
Even people who are of Spanish decent born out and away from the Spanish speaking community that never learned their Spanish grammar have issues with this word - everyone butchers the hell out of it no matter who they are if they don't know the grammar heh heh heh . EZ : HR
