Anyone try monels on their CF guitar ?
I just bought 2 sets of Martin monels , medium gauge, I have already put one set on my rosewood Martin dread.
They sound pretty good on that, loud and perhaps " fundamental " would be a description of their tone, (I normally use medium PBs) I understand the monels may take a week to achieve their optimum tone, so another couple o sessions to go still. Martin promotes these as "bringing out the unique woody sounds of your acoustic guitar" ... Anyhoo... I'm thinking of chuckin' t'other set on my Emerald X7, see if they bring out the li'l' guy's unique carbony sound . Anyone else try 'em yet ? |

That is what I settled on for my Rainsong shorty. Mediums.

I used the Retros on my Emerald T8 and liked them a lot. Also on the Rainsong Shorty which sounded good but I prefer Elixir Nano PB lights the best on the Rainsong. Let us know what you think on your x7. They do seem to take a little while to sound good and settle in.

I am using Martin Retros on my Blackbird Lucky 13 and I really like the tone. Less jangly than phosphor bronze, and more balanced, laid back tone across the strings. Great for background strumming so a singer's voice can rise out of the mix.

I have Retro MLJ13s on my X7, "LJ's Choice" light/mediums. Mediums on the outside, lights in the middle. I like them. Plaintive.

Custom lite Retros on my H DR1000
I tried the mediums which have the best sound, but to much work for my old hands.

Using Martin Monel Retro's 12/54 on my APLE Rainsong and they made a world of improvement over the Elixir nano's , warmer, less twang, really like them......
