What other acoustic has 1 3/4 nut width and 2 1/4 bridge spacing?
I am classical (nylon) trained and anything under 2 1/4 is somewhat uncomfortable. 2 1/4 is already too tight and I am really attracted to fingerstyle. I also tried the V neck, but the martin I played had a thick V neck. It made my thumb hurt after half hour of playing since I always keep the thumb centered behind the neck of the guitar.
I went to Sam Ash and the selection there was really limited to mostly taylors and a few Martins. The Martin OM-42 is probably what I should get, but I only wish I could afford it... Any other acoustics that are good for fingerstyle with the above mention specs and a loud clear solid sound? I am planning to spend between one to two thousands. Maybe its a tight budget, but its all I got. Thanks in advance and excuse my questions. I am just new to the acoustic world. |

The Walden G2070 has that. With a cedar top and mahogany sides and back, you might like the tone, coming from a classical. The neck is not V shaped, so your thumb should be more comfortable.

all of the martin om, and omc's have that spacing (except for the "performing artist" series), as well as the d-15s (slothead). i believe their other slotheads have that spacing as well and have seen a d-21s and d-28s with 1 7/8ths nut. the taylor "12's" ie 412, 512, etc have that spacing. my rainsong is close with 1 3/4, and 2 3/16ths. many of walden's upper model numbers (in the thousands) are even slightly wider at the bridge, 2 5/16th's i believe. one of the yamaha models and the american made breedloves have some with wider spacing and some recording king models as well, check their websites.
can you tell i've been looking? i made a little gauge, out of a plastic margarine tub lid, so that i could easily check the spacing at the various shops i stopped during my quest.

LA Guitar Sales has a Custom Martin OM-15 with a 1 3/4 neck & 2 1/4 bridge string spacing. The neck is a modified low oval.
A few other Martins: OMCe Mahogany, OMC Cherry, OMC16GTE. You might also look for a used Martin OMC Fingerstyle 1 (spanish cedar back and sides, adirondack spruce top, mod low oval neck). As to loudness, I can't say with much certainty. I've never played an OM that struck me as loud. I usually play in a small room so I'm just looking for loud enough. That said, the OMC Fingerstyle would be loudest of the above. The all mahogany guitars would be quieter than the others. Good luck with your search. |

The G2070 and G3030CE have the same dimensions. Those necks are 1 3/4 wide and nice and thin, back to front. Nice fast necks.

Hi Artifiz...
First of all, Hello and Welcome to the Forum (don't think we met yet). You may not be aware, but several Martin and Recording King guitars come with 1⅞'' nut, and a competent luthier/tech can easily convert a 12 string acoustic to a 6 string (by changing the nut) to provide extra string spacing. Your designated specs are quite common actually. |

Bridge spacing
I think the OM-28 Marquis has a 2 3/8" bridge spacing, and the OM-28V is 2 5/16".
