Celtic accoustic music style
Being relatively new to accoustic fingerstyle playing I am looking for some of your favorite examples of Celtic accoustic guitar recordings. I am familiar with Enya, Loreena McKennet, and the more "traditional" Celtic/Irish music but for the life of me I can't recall hearing a Celtic style of accoustic guitar. Any recommendations? Also, any suggestions for Celtic style instruction books and music books?

Hi,
You should check out the websites and get the catalogs available from Homespun Tapes (homespuntapes.com) and Mel Bay Publications (melbay.com). They both have large selections of fingerstyle stuff (Mel Bay in particular - huge resource of materials.) Names? Al Petteway Steve Baughman William Coulter Martin Simpson Ed Gerhard El McMeen etc... You'll find lots of other names at Homespun and Mel Bay. Also, many players have websites where you can hear examples of their playing. Keep in mind that these folks are the most advanced players on the planet! |

Taylor clinician Pat Kirtley has a CD of Celtic music. His website is:
http://www.win.net/mainstring/ By the way, he mentions in his clinics that guitar isn't an original celtic instrument and that is one reason you may not hear to much celtic guitar music. Bob ------------------ My little guitar/recording webplace: http://www.angelfire.com/in2/guitar |
