NGD 2014 Gibson SGJ
I picked up my new 2014 Gibson SGJ yesterday at the post office. It arrived safe and sound in a Gibson shipping box that didn't even have a single dent or crease. I was surprised that the guitar was in a very nice, plush gig bag since it was stated that there was no gig bag.
The guitar ... I can honestly say that it has exceeded my expectations. Not a single blemish, no sharp fret ends, action is great/low (I'm leaving it as is). It's a satin finish, which is the biggest reason for the $499 CAD price, taxes in. I prefer the look of gloss but no complaints about this satin finish. The pickups are Gibson '61s, which are new for 2014. Hotter than I expected but they do sound very nice. I think they're hotter than the '57 Classics I have in my Les Paul - I'll A/B them later. When both pickups are engaged with the middle selector switch I get a tone that resembles a rude (in a good way) blues tone when soloing. Kind of reminds me of the SD Pearly Gates vibe. Difficult to explain but almost a little bit of 'quack' to it. I like it. The volume pots are a pleasant surprise. They roll back nice so I can go from a distorted tone on 10, and then I can hear it clean up on 9, 8, 7, ect in a uniform manner. I know this is expected behavior with what I assume are audio pots but sometimes guitars come with cheap pots and they don't behave as they should. I could write more but I'm guessing people want to see some pics |

Nice. I like satin. And the striped fretboard.

Lookin' good as is, but if you prefer a gloss finish it can be polished out rather nicely. FYI there's another forumite who did just that; really brought out the grain and made the color deeper and richer to boot - probably look real classy with that nice tight top grain...
Use it well, often - and loud... |

She's a beaut. You have me really thinking about this deal. I do have a soft spot for SGs.
