Default Christain Country or Country Christian???

Our praise and worship band has been asked to play a church picnic next month that has a western/cowboy theme. I thought it would be neat if we could fit our music into the theme. We already occasionally do the old "Do Lord" and "I'll fly away", but what other suggestions do you have? Thanks
Hal

If you're going to keep in that kind of vein, you may want to do I saw the Light which is simple enough to pick up quickly. It might be fun to do some of your standard worship tunes with a bit of a twang... especially any of those with just three chords!

Look into Daniel Amos' self-named album available HERE. There's some great country rock there, ie, "The Bible" and "Losers and Winners." It was produced by Al Perkins, steel player of Emmie Lou fame. Nice vocal harmonies and they are pretty quick to learn as well.

Here are the 3 chord "Hoedowners" on our list:

Just a closer walk with Thee
Shall We Gather at the River
There's a Land Fairer than Day (Sweet Bye and Bye)
Uncloudy Day
Because He Lives
I'll Fly Away
I Saw The Light
Turn The Radio On

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. We do all of these in an upbeat bluegrass style.

My partner and I do a medley of I'll fly away and Glory Glory (when I lay my burden down)

Glory glory, hallelujah
Since I lay (laid) my burden down
Glory glory, hallelujah
Since I lay (laid) my burden down

All my sickness will be over
When I lay my burden down
All my sickness will be over
When I lay my burden down

All my troubles will be over
When I lay my burden down
All my troubles will be over
When I lay my burden down

Lord, I'm feeling so much better
Since I lay (laid) my burden down
Lord, I'm feeling so much better
Since I lay (laid) my burden down

These two tunes put together are real toe tapping crowd pleasers.

Hi Hal...
Many standard hymns adapt well to country styling.

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
Power in the Blood
Amazing Grace
In The Sweet By & By
Shall We Gather At the River

The topic of this thread reminds me of a major spelling gaffe commited by my mother in law.

She and another lady decided to start up a house cleaning business. She had about 1000 business cards printed up.

Judy and Linda's House Cleaning Service
------Two Christain Women-----

Some people probably thought it was a play on words and that they might also do stain removal.

I've always thought that MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine" had some country & western vocal stylings. As for "cowboy chords" it's pretty simple: E, Asus2 and B. At least that's how I've been doing it.

Hmm, it may explain why the choir in our little well-to-do congregation doesn't like our praise band all that much!

How about this Old Carter Family tune?

"Keep on the Sunny Side"
