Default Broken Mist (Al Petteway cover/demo)

This isn't a final recording, more of a demo. I'm testing out mic placement and I think I found the sweet spot. Unfortunately its only one mic, but the track was copied to two and then they were panned left and right. I changed my recording chain a bit and I'm happier with the result (I think acoustic recording is like looking for the perfect guitar - unobtainable, lol, but we can get closer). I also fooled around a bit with compression and a touch of reverb to make it interesting. Once I get my additional xlr cables I'll redo the recording.

I just learned this song last night/today so hopefully over the next week or so I can get it a little cleaner. Its a one time through with no regard to codas, etc. Its in Csus tuning. Initially I was learning it on my Seagull but I was getting a little buzz on the bass C so I switched it to the Larrivee which has mediums on it.

Broken Mist is on Al Petteway's Mountain Guitar cd. Excellent cd and all of the tabs for the CD are available on his website.

Barry, you nailed it! I love the song, very moody and rich sounding. The recording sounded great, the Larivee sounded great, and most importantly your playing was great. Very cool

Lovely job in so early a time in your learning this great Al Pettaway song, Barry! It sounds really good and your playing is very sensitive already!

Very cool tune, your Larrivee sounds great , very full and clear, what tonewood is that? Did you delayed a little bit one of the track to emule a stereo effect ? Otherwise it's just mono isn't it ?

Very nice! I know a few songs in that tuning (except the high string is tuned to D# instead of D natural) and it is hauntingly beautiful.

Thanks Fred. I'm going to see if I can find more tunes like this, Celtic or otherwise to learn.

Thanks Johan! The Larrivee is sitka spruce over mahogany. I didn't do a delay of the two tracks, just a bit of compression, some bass adjustment and a touch of reverb. Yest it's just the same mono track copied to a second track then both are panned. It'll sound fuller with two mics when I re-record it.
