Default New AKG C-1000s mics....

I just received an AKG C-1000S mic today. Years ago I bought one for about $225...the brand new one I got today only cost me $99. New in a factory sealed box. I plugged it in and it sounded great, will be a great mic for voice work. Years ago, the one I had was a very useful mic, I used it on guitar and vocal and it sounded fine to me. The guys over at Gearslutz however hated that mic and bad mouthed it every chance they got. Eventually I started to believe them that the mic was no good, so I sold it. I always liked that mic, so after it was gone I regretted selling it. Last week I found a great buy on a new one and re-purchased the same model mic. So tonight I am a happy camper to add this mic to my collection. It's a pretty cool mic for $99 bucks !!

This mic will sit on my computer desk aimed at the D-18 for practicing new songs off of You Tube. It'll amplify my guitar in my computer room. Perfect !!

I still have two of the original, dark gray body, made in Austria versions. I've been hearing from folks that they sound terrible for 25 years, but they work for me.

I remember years ago I went to a buddy of mine's recording studio, and laid down a track using an AKG 414 that he had. I was considering buying one. It was around $900 bucks new. So then I tried comparing the sound of the 414 to the C-1000s I already had. I laid down the same guitar track with the C-1000S at my place......sorry but I couldn't hear any major difference and lost interest in the 414 because of that sound test. Saved me a bundle.

Interesting... list price of $132 and 73 sold. It makes me wonder about the origin since there's counterfeit Shure mics that retail much less than the AKG C-1000.

It's an OK mic, but I personally prefer the Rode version.

Well the mic and box, and accessories all look and sound legit to me. It came in a factory sealed box with a AKG microphone guide book, instructional manual in many languages, AKG decal, packaged in molded foam, warranty card. But the sound quality is right there. I doubt very much it's a counterfeit. Everything about it looks right. A counterfeit mic wouldn't sound as good as this mic does. A five second sound test will tell you right away. This mic passes all the sound tests I did.

Here's a sound test between the Studio Projects B1, Rodes NT1 and the C-1000S...

I had similar results comparing the AKG 414 vrs the C-1000S I used to have.

Alto Music is a legit store. No worries about counterfeits when buying from them.

(No affiliation beyond being a customer of theirs for many years)

Yes, Alto music has a 99.8% positive feedback on 17,000+ sales. I'm not affiliated with them either. I just did a search on eBay for the C-1000 and this one looked like the best buy available. I was hoping to find one like my old one, but this one is an updated version from AKG. I like this one better than the old one. Very nice mic.

One of the accessories that came with this mic is the PPC1000 Polar Pattern Converter, which slips onto the capsule and changes the pickup pattern from cardioid to hypercardioid. What this means is that it becomes a very directional mic picking up what's in front of it while shunning sound from the back and sides. This is good to eliminate room noise and feedback. I really like this adapter because it's perfect for eliminating feedback problems with my studio monitors.

Another accessory is the PB1000 Presence Boost Adapter which boosts the mic by approx. 5db between 5kHz and 9kHz for optimum intelligibility of speech.

Alto's ebay post states 'used', but mint. I was wondering if these are manufacturer refurbished mics, but usually a manufacturers refurb is sold with the manufacturers warranty and these only appear to have an Alto 6 month warranty.

I have a pair I bought a long time ago. They still get used occasionally and being able to operate off a battery when phantom isn't handy is a plus. I think the C1000s get a lot of unwarranted bashing.

I know it states "Used-Mint condition" but what they sent me was a brand new mic in a sealed box. This has happened a few times to me with other sellers too. I'm thinking they have to advertise as "Used" to sell at a lower price as some manufacturer's require dealers to sell "new" only at set prices. Advertising as "Used" gets them out of this stipulation and they are free to sell at any price...so the consumer wins.

The Shure SM7b was also shipped to me in a factory sealed box. After checking it out I was sure it wasn't a fake. It sounds way too good.

It also may be they are just trying to sell off old stock. I believe the mic came out in 2012 and now four years later the dealer just wants to move the product out.
