Here's a string-ding prevention tip: cut a 1" x 4" section of thin cardboard. Tape it against side of the bridge using painters masking tape..protects the top and finish while you're restringing. Works like a charm.

I tie mine like the guitar that looks like a cedar top. Works for me.

I usually take a lit match to the end of the unwound strings (not near the guitar of course) so that there is a little nub of sorts. This helps if for some reason the string does start to slip, even if you have it pinched on the back side.
