Default New Yamamoto coming

I have a new, somewhat experimental Yamamoto coming. I'm leaving the details up to Tony, but it's going to be a small-body, very short scale, high-tuned unison 12 string, built from "paulownia", top, back and sides. A peek in progress:

Very cool, Doug! I can't wait to see this little guitar come together. I was blown away by the Yamamoto fan fret at H'burg 2011.

Tony makes a great sounding guitar. I am looking forward to this build.

You certainly have the right builder for an experiment.
Looks to be based on the talus body shape.
Keep us updated. Should be great.

Really like the shape. I've been thinking of doing something similar, maybe more like Harry Fleishman's asymmetrical. Doug, I've listened to nearly every recording on your pickup comparison pages. Thank you for putting that together, what an incredible resource! Do you plan to keep adding new ones? Seems like a huge undertaking.

Thanks, I haven't added in a while. I probably should add a couple, hard to get around to it!

Thanks for including us in this project, Doug. Tony builds a fine guitar and I look forward to following the progress as well as hearing you play this guitar when it is completed.

Best,
Jayne

Default Paulownia 12string

I'm really interested in what we get out of this guitar. Currently I'm waiting for a 10" long truss rod mailed from Taiwan.
Until then, here is something we can share.
This one is OM size, 24.9" scale unison string 12string.

Tony

Here's an update on this guitar. This has been a fun process, Tony's so willing to experiment. The 1st guitar shown in the photos turned out really cool, but Tony wanted to try some variations, and created a 2nd protoype. #1 was all Paulownia, and strung as unison double courses. #2 is a Paulownia top, but Indian rosewood back and sides, and currently strung with octave strings, like a normal 12 string. But it's still a 20 inch scale, and tuned a 4th higher than a normal guitar. #2 has a slightly wider nut, which makes the small fretboard a little roomier. Its hard to tell with the different string setups, but #2 seems to have a wider response, where as #1 is more midrangey. I recorded a quick trial on #2 tonight, just to see how it records. Looking good Doug and Tony. Looks like Gotoh Stealth tuners. Nice choice for a short scale guitar. Where did you find the pawlonia?

Hi Ken, I get Paulownia from my Facebook friend Ngoh Thiam Meng in Singapore.
