Bob, I'm glad that overlay speaks to you. You might have to stop by Trevor's next trip over there and take this one for a spin.
Kevin, thanks for the kind remarks.
You know how tedious it is routing into a pale background!

Ok, back from the Guild of American Luthiers Convention and ready to resume this post. Not too much longer now. The instrument should be completely finished next week. It's a coming Trevor!

Here's a shot of the top and side. The golden-ness of these browns is wonderful. The picture definitely doesn't capture it, but the richness of the Purpleheart is mesmerizing.

The back with the "jaguar" figure jumping out a little more in the central portion of the back balanced against some curl in the wings.

Steve is tracing off the bridge with a pen knife to remove the lacquer underneath. When removed, this will allow the bridge to be glued wood to wood.

A shot of taking the lacquer off the bridge area. We put down tape before it was finished to help with the removal process.

Gluing the neck on to the body. Actually it's mainly bolted, but we glue the fingerboard extension down to the top.

Thanks for following along. Hopefully next week, she'll be singing.

Congratulations on the new shop!
I know that's a huge undertaking but can really pay off once you're settled in.

Thanks, Mark. Indeed, we had no idea how much work was going to be involved.
Of course, now that the bulk is behind us, we're quite happy we built it.

Well, we're all strung up and singing! I'll post some random pics of this guy, and I hope to get a sound clip up later tonight or tomorrow. I believe if everything goes well, we'll be shipping it to Trevor next week. He always takes fantastic pictures when he gets them in. So here's a couple of parting shots.

A peek in the soundhole. If you go back and look, you can see how much the rosette mellowed from start to finish. We're really pleased with the results.

Final peghead. Moradora head plate, Purpleheart logo, chrome Gotoh tuners, and Black Horn buttons. Did the Purpleheart accents work out?

A shot through the soundport. Really just because I could.

Last look at the top strung up. Here you see our Moradora bridge with Boxwood pins to complement the overall theme.

This guitar is loud and sounds wonderful. A little dryness from the mahogany, but not lacking any fullness. I hope to get some audio up tonight. Thanks so much for watching along.

Love the maple rosette. Oh, and the rest of the guitar too!

Thanks Matthew. I think the colors work well too, but even better is what those two species do together sonically.

Kind words, Pete--thank you.

Thanks for the kind words! As I said before, here are the promised audio clips of the guitar. Steve performed both these pieces. The first one is Both Sides Now and the second one is I Will. I hope you can tell what power this instrument has from just some simple fingerpicking. One day we'll get pros to play our guitars on professional recording equipment. Please bear with our luddite attempts. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks Trevor. We believe that this will be a great addition to your shop. We Texans may not have our finger on the pulse of the British guitar payer, but we tried our best with this one. We're confident it will find a happy home.

That purple heart looks fantastic. Such a great accent.

Thanks a lot. It's not for every guitar, but we think it worked well with this one.

Hi, Steve, Hi, Ryan,
This new guitar sounds as good as it looks. Excellent omen, being the first (?) guitar completed in your new shop. Many more masterpieces will come from there, no doubt about it. You guys are swinging for the fences every time. And Trevor is gonna LOVE this beauty!
It was great to see you both at the GAL convention. That was a good time, eh? I especially enjoyed the listening sessions on the concert stage- where the Kinnaird guitars sounded brilliant- as usual! That Ovation that you re-topped was mind-blowing.
Keep up the great work!
-Steve
