Taylor Factory Set-up "Specs"
Friends:
Is there an actual "Taylor Factory Set-Up Spec"? By that I mean is there a standard they use for setting the string height? I've been told that other companies have set standards for that issue.... so, I'm wondering if Taylor does as well? In other words, if I took my guitar to a luthier familiar with Taylor's, and said "please set this up to the Taylor spec" would that have specific meaning? Thanks in advance for any information you can offer on this subject. Bill

hi leesam:
thanks for that info! I think I had a brain bubble (or worse) as that is the exact same information I would have gave in response to the question... oh man, getting old(er) is kinda' weird.

no problem. I no longer own a Taylor( have owned way to many over the last 7 years!!) but I`ld have to say they have one of the best web sites there is for FAQ and teck sheets! They do set the bar in this area.

If I was taking a guitar to my luthier, I would let him adjust the action to that best suited for my playing style and the guitar and not worry about factory specs.

maybe a factory spec set-up is what suits his style of playing...............

Could be. Then I would have the luthier set it for my style rather than a factory set x/32". I would say that for many here, one of the first things changed on their guitars (maybe after strings) is the factory spec action.

Thanks Louie.... That really is what I'm trying to get done. If the "factory spec' setting isn't to my liking, then I will have it changed from there. But, I've been really happy with the way my other Taylor's have felt. I think the one I just got might have been "adjusted" to someone else's preference. In any event, I'm taking it to Elderly next week. There is a great guitar tech there (actually, many, I'm sure) that is quite familar with Taylor's. He's going to install a clear pickguard, a new bone saddle, and then do a pro set-up. All the best! Taylorplayer

Hi Taylorplayer, you are right, when you want to know if the guitar still has the factory setup. Changing the action of my Taylors was the first thing I did and I let the action change, before I took them out of the store. From what I know, changing the original setup of their instruments is what most of my customers and coworkers do.
