Wow Mark, I am new to the forum but have checked in on your website for a couple of years now, and all your guitars seem to be works of art, but now you take it to a new level. Congrats, and thanks for sharing.

First of all welcome to the forum!

I see you are a neighbor here in Southern New Hampshire. You are welcome to come out to my studio and see what I'm working on first hand and get the tour. Just give me a call!

Mark

Default Frets

I installed the frets today;

I chose to use the Gold EVO frets. They wear better than regular nickel frets. It's said they sound better which I can't say I've noticed but, I think they are a bit better with hammer ons and a little smoother bending strings. In any case, they look great on the Olivewood fret board;

You can also see that I took the time to do the rounded semi hemispherical fret end dressing. It's another playing comfort item and also gives you a little more usable fret surface. Plus it just looks a lot more finished.
So we're coming along!

Thanks for following along!
Mark

My goodness, I don't think I've ever seen a guitar combine form, beauty, and function so well! Love getting on this thread just to see the updates!

I just stumbled upon this thread. Beautiful work, Mark. Thanks for sharing your art with us all!

I've never seen a cutaway like that; it's beautiful? Can you tell me about it?

Thanks cigarfan! I do have many new ideas incorporated into this guitar. What is exciting for me is that some of these ideas are new techniques that open a lot of doors for more creativity. So there will be a lot more to come!

Thanks Shadowfox, combining form, beauty, and function really is what I'm going for with one minor change, it's function, form, and beauty

Thanks Haasome, the bandsaw and I are getting along well. I'm experimenting with blades and working out a re saw sled.

Thanks for commenting Earthworm, That's a scoop cut away. It's a great cut away to go with an elevated fret board as far as comfort and upper frets access go. It's kind of a minimalist cutaway which doesn't take away so much air volume from the guitar's body. So you might call it a minimally invasive cut away. I don't know where it originally came from. As near as I can tell they started showing up in the US and England in the late 90s. I see them on both steel string and classic guitars. No one seems to be claiming ownership so it could just be the illegitimate offspring of a bevel and a Floretine stranger in the night . Now that I think about it I suppose that fits in well with the Italian
theme I have going on with this guitar.

Thank you Mark, I will definitely be calling you this fall/winter when work slows down.
Those frets work great, that is one incredible guitar you are building.

Great! You're welcome any time. This fall I will also again be participating in the Monadnock Art Tour on Oct. 7, 8, and 9th. I am working to have a number of finished guitars on hand for this event as it has proven quite successful for me. There will be 50 studios open with all kinds of great work. It's a great time to come out!

I've been finishing up on some of the niggly little clean up work and will have this ready for finish next week;
