Just got back from the hospital. One tooth out - it was in poor condition (why? I pay a dentist a lot to care for my teeth!) Anyway - big hole now.

They reacted to my reaction about having all back teeth out, recognised that such a procedure might permanently restrict my jaw movement which they thought might be bad news for my activity as a singer and public speaker.

There was also a possible issue with my heart, (under investigation again), so, it's a calculated risk, which does mean that the delayed treatment might be able to commence in a couple of weeks.

Blitzen the cat not looking good. 1st day he hasn't been at my side all the time. My regular vet has left and the young locum this morning was useless. He's going back to another vet on Thursday.

I think he'll need dentistry, but no NHS for cats...even Burmeses!

I had an old cat with gum disease that affected his ability to eat ; a full scaling did the trick and turned her around in a matter of days.

Had to eat dry food ever after; the soft stuff was the alleged cause of excessive plaque.

Good luck on Thursday!

Dear Andy -

Situations like this require a lot of personal elasticity. It can be exhausting at times. It is good training in not developing expectations...just meet each moment as best you can, and save your energy for important things.

A friend of mine ran many marathons, and he said the most important skill is learning how to only use the energy and muscles that are required, and not to tense muscles unnecessarily. To this end, he developed a mantra: "The harder it gets, the more I relax". It works in life, as well, IMO. Or another version, from a Chi Gong (Qigong) master (best rendered in a Chinese accent): "Relax, relax, relax! Chi Everywhere!"

I wish you the best possible outcome.

Silly, check with the hospital to see if they offer any complementary therapies. When I worked in hospital ministry we used "Reiki" with cancer patients- it helped them through their treatments etc. all the best to you!!
