Very true. This problem improved for me though. Worse in my first year of playing when my callouses were particularly thick. Not so bad now.

Default Calloused fingertips

Great name for a band...or a country song!

Or touch screens in stores.

It's really a problem for us left handed people that play right handed.

I was in a situation a few years back and was playing in a mega church so we had three hour rehearsals and then 3-4 services on the weekend. The problem was I didn't have or at least didn't take the time to practice other than those two days during the week and my callouses would peel and leave sensitive fingertips that I had to suffer through.

The best thing is to make sure you play at least a little every day or at least most days. Since I have been doing that, the callouses stay nice and thick and no peeling.

don't use a nail file, use an emory board or something else that is not so rough on your fingers. eventually, you'll have them to the point where it is maintenance only now and then.

play music!

I started playing again regularly a few months ago and have some decent calluses going but my fingertips feel kind of numb and tingly all the time. Is that a permanent phenomena for anyone?

Same deal for me dragon, but in my case the vast majority of numbness went away after the first year of playing (I also returned to guitar after a multi-year hiatus).

Finger pain and callous obsession is something we all go through. It will end.

The greatest callous thread ever and to me, one of the best AGF threads ever is

http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...uses%2C+shower

It was ultimately shutdown by no nonsense moderator "rlouie" The OP is no longer around so I don't think it hurts anyone to repost it.

I just played an old CBS Masterworks, strumming hard for the last 45 minutes. 10s, but it's an old MIJ guitar. I use it to keep my fingertips calloused.

My peel off on their own. I never pick or peel. What was cool as a kid was having these flaking fingertips! A few other guys I knew were in the same "fraternity". Like carpenter's hands!
