OK we all know how intense playoff hockey is. As fans we've waited almost a year for this and some of us are pretty intense too! I don't know about other fan bases but here's an example of a 'typical' Penguins fan's reaction to a bit of adversity when his team is involved in a playoff game: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...il-end-of-game Just another day at work during the playoffs!!!!

So the gauntlet has been thrown down. Other fan bases try to top that one!

Hmmm, Catdaddy I think you guys can have that title! ;-)

Best I can think of is Patrice Bergeron playing with a punctured lung 3 years ago, although he didn't realize that's what was ailing him at the time.

Wow! I wasn't aware of the Bergeron thing. That's a pretty impressive bit of fortitude!! Over the years I've known of several Pens players who have played with a broken foot in the playoffs (most recently Matt Cullen last year) but a punctured lung is a lot more serious medical condition. My wife and I often joke that when a hockey player sustains an injury during a game that would put a major league baseball player on the disabled list for 10 days the hockey player usually returns for his next shift.

Father and son road trip to Pittsburgh. Had a great time watching the opening round. Son is a huge Pens fan but I am wearing my "Go Pens!" shirt as I type this.

I just dug up the details on Bergeron. I had forgotten it was even more than a punctured lung, which sounds like actually occurred after the game:

http://www.espn.com/boston/nhl/story...eased-hospital

Meanwhile, some Red Sox players got the sniffles and had to sit out a few games last week.

Here's a quote from the article: "Bergeron is also suffering from a cracked rib, torn rib cartilage and a separated shoulder. It is unclear how and when the punctured lung occurred."

The article goes on to say that he underwent a procedure to ease the pain of the cracked rib so he could play in the game and it's suspected that the procedure caused a lung puncture!

Put me in coach! Hokey smokes what a warrior!!!

As a Washingtonian, I don't know what hurts more. The Redskins sucking EVERY YEAR or the Capitals muscling into the playoffs only to have an early exit EVERY YEAR. SIGH

Well, I'm a Leafs and Pens fan. I would like to see the Leafs take out the Caps but that will likely not happen. The Pens will have a difficult time repeating with Letang out for the playoffs but they can score and they have very good goaltending. I would like to see Minnesota take it if the Pens don't but they finished the regular season dismally.

Pens 1 Jackets 0 at the end of the 1st period. Kind of looks like a replay of game #1 with Columbus dominating offensive zone ice time and shots, but the Pens scoring first (on their first shot on goal in the game) on Crosby's first goal of this playoffs.

Pens 4 Jackets 1 Final

Pens dominated possession and play for the final 2 periods. Fleury and Crosby were outstanding. Overall a really good team performance.

Frustrated Jackets at the end of the game predictably start some goonery. Hopefully Matt Calvert breaking his stick over Tom Khunhackl's neck while cross checking him in the final minute of play will garner a suspension from the league. Really ugly stuff.

Calvert suspended for 1 game by the NHL. Should have been more IMO but at least the league acknowledged it was an egregious violation.

How about those Canadian teams (Canadians, Senators and Maple Leafs) all winning game 2 of their series in OT! Oh how I'd love to see the Leafs knock off the Caps.

Pens visit Columbus for game #3 of their series tonight. Go Pens!!!!!!!!

Yeah that was pretty obnoxious. I like how he got laughed at though.

My wife and I took our youngest to D.C. over the weekend so I missed the Pens games on Friday and was in such withdrawal that I watched the Caps/Leafs game in my hotel room just 2 blocks away. I only made it the opening of the 2nd OT.

Now I'm home watching Pens struggle against CBJ and are down 1-3 at end of the 1st.
