Default Anyone Keep a Guitar Just for Looks?

Curious if people have kept a guitar just because of how good it looks it, even though it may sound inferior to other guitars you have?

Hi jw…

I have a friend who looks for garage sale finds and screws them to the wall in his music room. It might be funky old guitars, old horns, or other music instruments.

We keep a baritone uke on the couch with the throw pillows in my music room pretty much for decoration (it gets played a bit now and again).

Looks are what many others appreciate about it - sentiment is why I keep it -

No way, no how. I'd sell it or give it away. I might keep a guitar around for sentimental reasons, but not because of the way it looks, even if it is strikingly beautiful. It's got to have a useful sound, or it's gone. I might keep an ugly one past repairs, saw it in half, and use it as a planter. I've seen that before - it was cool.

I'm with JT on this, if it don't sound good I don't care how good it looks.

No, I've never kept a guitar for looks. Although I expect many people wish I had, in lieu of playing it....

I've kept electric guitars even though I didn't play them.
Mostly because selling them would've been to complicated for too little money.

Now here's the part that's relevant to the OP :
One of them was a black Danelectro pro and while it would have made more sense to put it in its case and out of the way I kept it on a wall cause I thought it looked cool

I think the old maxum, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" applies here. If a guitar doesn't play and sound good, it stops looking good to me, no matter how pretty others might find its visual appearance.

I purchased a Miller Light Stratocaster to hang in my bar, does that count?

I've never acquired a guitar just for looks, so that rules out keeping one for the same reason.

Interestingly, the longer I keep and play my two guitars, the better they look to me, along with sounding better.

A Cocobolo custom Taylor T5 once passed through my hands. Even my wife's jaw dropped at its beauty, and she is normally quite indifferent to guitars. I sold it, but it did hurt, and I wondered if I shouldn't keep it just for occasional use - the thing was a joy to behold!
