Default Miche - Electric Soloing tips

I spend most of my time on the nylon string. However i started out on the electric. In this video I'm addressing a question I'm asked often.

Interesting video, Miche… and some good points. I remember first hearing Mahalia when I was a little kid. Wow… talk about a soulful voice… she had it!

Thank you so much Kerbie. A little while ago, I was listening to "A Closer Walk With Thee" by Mahalia Jackson. Wow.

Nice tips. Marty Friedman gets his unique phrasing by emulating Enka singers.

My problem is, I don't like vocal music that much.

That's a good point, Miche! For years I've approached lead with a lyric style, even adding the equivalent of breaths. The non-stop machine-gun approach has never seemed nearly as musical to me.

Enka singers? That's a new one for me. I'll look into that. Thanks buddy.

Bob, I'm embarrassed to say how long I've been playing before I made that connection. We're always learning, right?

Yeah. I've got a shredder friend who is always trying to goose me to higher speed, saying, "It's no fun unless it is fast!" He'll push me to learn a lick and I'll pick it up then throw it in in the middle of my lyric stuff just for fun or work it into a passage where I'm trying to increase tension through a little more speed. It makes him happy.
