I like paul Galbraith's somewhat radical approach.

For some reason, I immediately bypass guitar videos when the guitar has more than 6 strings. It may be simply a traditional issue for me.

Craviola, thanks for posting the discussion of his guitar by Perfecto. I never really thought of the extra strings as being a source of increased resonance for the standard 6 strings even when only playing on the 6.

I really like the sound of some of the multi-string pieces. Stephen Bright does some medieval type music which sounds wicked with the extra bass - there's a bunch of his MP3 samples here http://www.cathedralguitar.com/MP3.html.

From the player side it's more daunting. I'm a mediocre player who is intimated by the extra strings. I've been thinking about this guitar:

It's a Bartolex. I like the cutaway and soundport, and it's available at Cathedral Guitar for about $2400. What's stopping me is how am I going to learn how to play it? I'm a hobbyist who can't read music. What would be best for me would be music with tablature, however I cannot seem to find any 10 string tab!
