Beautiful! I know that tune well... it's on "Gord's Gold," if I remember correctly. Very well done... flawless playing. You just make it look so effortless. And I love Gerald's guitar. Nothing beats that sweet European Spruce. Thank you for sharing!

Great story, Glenn! While my wife is not a musician, as your wife, but she reveres this song as well, so much so that I believe this would be her one choice at any memorial service for her (don't want to get too dark here!). There are many days when she would arrive home from work and pull in the driveway with this song at full volume....not a chance that she'd turn the car off before belting out the last of it with Sarah McLachlan! She is truly a "winter person" and loves everything about this beautiful song.
Thanks again!
Fred
Yes, wonderful to have more time for creative experiences!

Excellent as always. Great singing on this one too! I really like Gordon's music and your version is just as good as the original! Keep up the good work.

So beautifully performed, Glenn.

I wasn't familiar with this song but thanks to you I will add it to my favourites.

The Sheppard is stunning -- and your playing is so smooth on this recording.

Hi Mau,

Thank you for listening and commenting! I do agree, that Sheppard is really quite a guitar!

"Song for a Winter's Night" first appeared on Gordon Lightfoot's 1967 album, The Way I Feel. http://gordonlightfoot.com/albums.shtml So this song has been around for literally 50 years. My dorm counselor when I was at Purdue University went to high school with Gordon Lightfoot in Toronto and was an acquaintance of his, so he introduced me to these early albums.

So it's really true that I have been playing this song for 50 years, really since I first heard it I felt I had to learn it.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this song!

Hi A-Mac,

Thank you so much for providing your reaction here! It's really gratifying that you liked my version, but the real credit has to go the guy who wrote this in the first place. I have learned an awful lot from Gordon Lightfoot over the years!

The man can't only play the guitar very well, but he can also sing...

I take my imaginary hat off for you, Glenn :P
