Taught myself the basic melody for "Tom Dooley" in the later fifties... just single note plucking... I was VERY proud of myself after learning it at age 7 or 8...

First song with chords was shown to me by a friend, Janet Heck, shortly thereafter; the song was "More (The theme from Mondo Cane - ?)"... just a basic I-VI-II-V in C, with the variant of an F chord for the Dmin... even with 3 fingers, that F chord was VERY challenging!

What a long, strange trip it's been!

Em, G, A C, B7...... my guitar teacher said they were all the chords you ever needed.... a bit simplistic perhaps, but in a way, he was right!
