Default Thanks for the kind words

Should be finished thurs. There is a question about how to make the wall look "finished" while maintaining a 1/8" gap at tops and sides.

When you say 1/8" gap, you're referring to a gap where the ceiling meets the wall, etc?

The gap in that instance is over-rated in my opinion. In general, you'll find it easier to tell them to drywall as per normal, then seal the perimeter with sealant, then mud and tape. That's a great deal of sealing materials, and unless there is a seismic event, you'll stay sealed fine.

Default Before and after pictures of project.

Here is the work done by the people whose name shall not be spoken: http://tinypic.com/a/23wac/4
There are a ton others, but can see no tape and float, awful paint, and if look closely at the electrical outlet can see where they cut a channel for wires through sheetrock. Lucky we did not burn down the house.

Anyway, demo-ed the whole mess, started over. My wife took these on her blackberry. http://tinypic.com/a/23wab/4

All they have left is the carpet.

I am sitting in a recording studio we installed fifteen years ago. We were challenged by an HVAC chiller located 50 feet away and across a cinder block wall and a garbage crusher abut thirty feet away. We documented the "threats" and designed the room to reject them. First we isolated each room by floating the floors on separate pads and then built triple walls, each with its own studs, three layers of glued and screwed sheetrock with seams overlapped for rigidity, and dead spaces. The ceilings are floated as well. The facility was then further isolated by a lobby/iso room area with a dual external iso wall, with each wall again having triple sheet-rock. All and all you were looking at about $125k in architectural work including custom diffusers.

At opening, the room performed to spec, ie. it had very little induction from the outside and NO sound transfer out to surrounding areas. About four years later the building owners replaced the HVAC chiller with a more powerful one and we've experienced low-level LF induction ever since. PFFFFT! The external threats are always a moving target and you always eventually loose the fight.

Default Thanks

Cranked the Fender Concert II, 60watt 1x12 with strat at uncomfortable levels and could only barely be heard in adjacent room or outside. Inside level in adjacent room well under level of tv and inaudible in rest of house. outside volume less than outdoor AC compressors.

Loud acoustic guitar anly generally inaudible.

The resilient channel + two layers of 5/8" sheet rock seemed to do the trick.
