Default NCGD (New Classical Guitar Day)

This afternoon I picked up a new to me classical guitar from James Goodall. Despite being used it was in like new condition and I am genuinely pleased with this instrument's sound and playability. Everything about it is nearly perfect, or as close as we get in this life. Here's a quick, first picture:

The top is cedar and the back and sides are Rosewood, East Indian I would presume. Each detail of this guitar is as good as any I have seen, which seems to be in keeping with Goodall's reputation. You can now put me down as a believer. (smile)

Until I saw this and another at my favorite shop I didn't either and they have nothing about them on their web site. This used one has been there for about a year and I've visited it so many times I was getting attached. The price, even as a used instrument, was above my pay grade (old retired phart) but I was getting attached anyway. When they dropped the price $1000 I gave in and bought it.

Without question the best guitar I will ever own and no, it isn't my first classical. About the 4th one, each being better than it's predecessor. (smile)

Very nice Dave. I bought my first classical/crossover, a Cordoba Fusion. My instrctor bought a nylon Martin and I was hooked. Gets alot of play time. Good all around response, smooth easy fretboard, quieter tone. Really getting to like nylon. You should be able to find a few quite places out there to play and get inspiration, like up by Keyanta by the four corners , real quite up there. I dont go to Mexica Hat anymore, remindes me of that movie "Dusk to Dawn" know what I mean?

Cool NCGD - Goodall

Same with me...didn't realize Goodall made classical guitars. CONGRATS! Sounds like you got a price you just couldn't turn down. I'm sure you'll be enjoying it for a long, long time. That extra half-fret gives a nice touch.

Glen,

The Goodall had been "on the wall" in my favorite guitar store for about a year. I had visited it so many times it recognized me when I walked in the room (LOL). The longer it was there, and the more I looked at it and played it, the more it spoke to me. I went in last week to ask if, because it had been around for so long would they consider a price reduction. When I looked at the price tag to confirm what it had always been they had just dropped the price $1000. Yes, I couldn't turn it down. (large smiley face goes here)

ROTFLMAO - I've never made a sound recording and don't have the equipment to do so (what ever it takes). And if someone else recorded a sound clip for me I wouldn't have any idea how to post it. I don't do plugged in guitars either! (LOL)

You'll just have to accept the word of an old acoustic fan. This Goodall sounds wonderful. (smile)

I've never played a Goodall nylon-string but the few Goodall steel-strings I have tried have just blown me away.

I don't think I've ever heard clarity like that in any other guitar.

"Piano-like" is the best term I can think of to describe the sound.

My local, favorite shop (Acoustic Vibes Music in Tempe, AZ) has a brand new one that looks just like the one the Maple Street Guitars link takes you to. I got to play that one too and it was just a beautiful sounding instrument. I kind of like my cedar top a little better…but it's a close thing. (smile)
